Cheap Or Free ToolsHere is a list of useful freebies I've found. These range from fun to functional, with a few pointless wastes of time in there if you need to put your brain in neutral for a while. Audio, Video, and ConferencingAcrobat LiveAvailable at http://www.acrobat.com as a fully-hosted online service. Acrobat.com is a beta (ie, they're experimenting and letting us try it out), so expect some quirks. But in general Acrobat.com is a great toolset. The following features are available (quoting from their site):
UStream.TVAt present, UStream.TV is being financed by... um... someone with a lot of money. But this means you can broadcast a live video stream for free. There are no limits on bandwidth or even show length. This has lots of potential for live church service streaming. See http://ustream.tv for more. VideoLAN PlayerPlays anything--and I do mean anything. http://www.videolan.org/vlc to download. This is a very simplified video player that handles a vast number of file types and in a pinch can even convert from one type to another. ApplicationsGNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)GIMP is a freeware PhotoShop wannabe. Since I've never used PhotoShop, I have nothing to compare it to. Still very featureful. http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ Google PackThe folks at Google have a number of applications which run in a browser: email, basic word processing, a spreadsheet, and a calendar application. The Google Pack is a bundle of goodies which frankly I'm suprised they're giving away.
Visit http://pack.google.com to download the parts you want. OpenOffice.orgNow at version 3.0, OpenOffice.org is a completely free suite similar to Microsoft Office. http://www.openoffice.org to download.
